Our song writing process tends to be that Gretta shows up with a skeleton of a song and some lyrics. The rest of the band starts fleshing out all the parts. This time, Gretta also had a rhythmic hook. It took us a minute to understand how it fit into the tempo, and you could feel the excitement grow. Once it snapped into time, I looked around and saw the huge smiles on everyone’s faces that matched my own. We jammed through it a couple times, and then we played through the entire song with Gretta’s scratch lyrics. The song basically wrote itself. We had the song done in a couple hours, pretty much the way it is today. In this band, we know a song has legs if we basically finish it same day. Really cool to see the excitement around it at shows, and then after finishing recording an EP we knew this had to be the first release. Huge thanks to Max Rose for mixing and Jack Endino for mastering this juggernaut.

The single is released January 3rd at our party at the Tractor. We go on early, so show up promptly for the show. See you there! This is gonna be an exciting year of music!

This kind of thing is sadly all too common. But on the other hand, we had some fun times and got an amazing recording out of it.

I’m truly proud of the record, and I feel like it’s one of the rare moments that I was able to “say” most of what I intended. One of my favorite recordings for sure.

Thanks for those who came out and wished Mike farewell and cheered us on one last time. It was an honor to share the bill with Moon Letters and Authentic Luxury. And Mike, anywhere you go, great music will be made. I’m looking forward to your next chapter. But for now, here’s the final show in entirety.

For the sake of completion, I should also mention that we did create a music video for the opening track on the album. Thanks so much for your support, coming out to shows, listening to the record, and encouraging us to keep going. It really meant a lot.

We shot ourselves in Dave’s basement, where we recorded the album, and then we ran around in the woods. There are a couple easter eggs in this video, so pay attention.

In the meantime, here’s our recent performance on October 26, 2023 at the Blue Moon Tavern. So cool that they live stream everything and have an amazing archive of performances. In this video, we’re up first. I highly, highly recommend that you watch the whole thing. Bad Luck and Authentic Luxury are both just inspiring to the eyes and ears and, if you were present that night, the nose.

Not sure when “Hard” will be released, but we think “Body” will be a winter release when people are all moody.

Just before we went into quarantine, the pandemic was heating up but it wasn’t clear if it was contained or going to spread. Preproduction on the album was done, and we had studio dates booked at Earwig Studio. Sad Trombone! Everything was canceled, and the album was put on ice.

As things opened up again, years later, we knew we had to go in and record the tracks asap. We started rehearsing furiously, and then of course some amazing things happened. You can’t stop the creativity. Robert had a crazy idea about adding horns. Sean discovered some ghost infested old tape recordings he had inherited, which we had to include somewhere. And then we had to add strings to back up those ghosts. And then we had an epic rehearsal sitting around a korg where we wrote all the keyboard parts in one session in a frenzy of manic collaboration. The breadth of places we were to travel had vastly expanded.

Finally, Earwig made special arrangements for us to get in. We all tested negative and wore masks, but the background pandemic context didn’t phase us. We created an epic party album anyway. What better way to release all that pent up energy after years of anticipation. You can find it as of today on bandcamp, and soon it will be released everwhere. We also have some very special limited edition merch just for this album. Come and say hi at our next show!

Part 1 is Goat Sounds: a medley of Dumb Prayer (composed by myself), Faded (featuring yours truly on theremin), and closing with the psych-punk Talking to Brian. Yeah, we were going through a Brian Wilson phase.

Part 2 is Brothers of the Deep, by Suitcase. This is probably the heaviest thing I’ve ever heard from these song writing geniuses.

I’m pretty darned proud to announce the official release of a live performance of two brand new songs from Stereo Creeps. “She Knows” and “It’s a Secret” were recorded live in a room full of friends at the recent Earwig Sessions at Earwig Studio, and we decided that’s just how we’re going to release these songs. We recorded an EP earlier in the year, but that’s the real studio deal so it takes a moment to get it all packaged up and ready for release. Technically that EP was my first recording on the drums with Stereo Creeps (I appeared on the previous release Suck on theremin), but this is my debut released performance with the band and so IT’S MY BIG DAY! Sean Moe, Robert Dollarsign, and Mark Wardell – it’s a huge honor to be teaming up with you on rocking the f out of everything! Don Farwell and Lance Hofstad – thanks for putting lipstick on this pig with your audio and video genius! And of course thank YOU for your continued support of local music. More important than ever.
