Captain Groovy

Announcing our new submission for Seattle 48 Hour Film Project!

Captain Groovy

We had 2 days to do it–from writing the script with required elements, all the way to the final production and submission. This was my second project with 48hfp, and second director to work with. Last time was creepy horror, this time was family dramedy. If you don’t mind fart jokes, then please enjoy!

More background: While I did see the script early on, I didn’t see a rough cut until a day later. But that’s the way it’s gotta be because they were all out in the field doing the actual filming the first day. The next day, I’m furiously cleaning up my best guesses at what might work and making all my cues work with the scenes. We probably ended up leaving out 2/3rds of my cues, but that’s the nature of the process. Better to have too much rather than too little. And better to be surgical about the soundtrack than just pile on the music just because it exists. The short time span of forced creativity is stressful, but totally worth it! What a relief and what pleasure to have something completed in that short time span!
